Mass At Notre Dame

Mass At Notre Dame

As luck would have it, we were in Paris the same time as the Pope's visit there.  Notre Dame is, naturally, chaos personified under the circumstances.  Many sections of the nave are roped-off or taped-off in preparation for a celebratory Mass the next day.  Tours are cancelled except for the audio-tours which involve individuals wandering through the church while listening to a recorded narration explaining the various points of interest.  Most of us find this very unsatisfying, and we wind up fleeing to less agitated parts of the city.

We spend a few hours at the Musee d'Orsay, then cross the Seine on Pont Solferino on our way to the Hotel Ritz and its Hemmingway Bar.  The Ritz is another world, one with which none of us is familiar.  Stores in the lobby offer luxury goods beyond our price range;  there is very little which is in our price range.

In the Hemmingway Bar, we are sure we have been given the "not appropriately dressed" menus because the least expensive cocktail we can identify is 28€ ($40).  Ouch.
